Nature for All
The Nature for All Coalition is a network of local and national nonprofits working to protect public lands and expand access to green spaces across Los Angeles.
Since 2000, the coalition has brought together diverse partners, including social justice, immigrant, environmental, and civic organizations, to advance protections and improve recreational access for over 18 million people in the region.
San Gabriel Mountains National Monument Expansion (2024)
On May 2, 2024, President Biden expanded the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument by 105,919 acres, protecting a key gateway to the Angeles National Forest. This expansion safeguards critical water resources, promotes equitable access to nature, supports climate and biodiversity goals, and preserves the cultural and historical significance of these public lands.
Our Coalition’s Recent Impact
Expanded Lands and Access
The newly expanded monument includes popular sites such as Eaton Canyon, Cobb Estate, Sam Merrill Trail, Millard Canyon, and Brown Mountain. These lands provide outdoor space for over 18 million people living within 90 miles, including urban and culturally diverse communities with limited access to green space.
Funding and Improvements
Over $1 million in support from philanthropic, corporate, and state partners will enhance access and sustainable recreation. The San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy is investing $2.5 million in improvements along the East Fork of the San Gabriel River, including trails, amenities, restrooms, and safer access.
Stewardship and Community Engagement
Youth field rangers and outdoor apprentices will help manage and protect the monument’s highly visited areas, promoting long-term stewardship and public engagement with these lands.
Support and Advocacy
This expansion reflects over 20 years of advocacy and enjoys broad support from elected officials, Tribal leaders, local governments, and community organizations. Key supporters include Senators Alex Padilla and Laphonza Butler, Representative Judy Chu, and Vice President Kamala Harris, as well as local cities and the Fernandeño Tataviam and Gabrieleno San Gabriel Bands of Mission Indians.
